Ann Swift Memorial Nursing Scholarship Serves CRCS Grads

(May 2016) Ellsworth Swift of Cuba, NY created an endowed scholarship fund with the Allegany County Area Foundation to honor his wife, Ann Swift, who passed away in 2014. This scholarship is available to the graduates of the Cuba-Rushford High School and was first awarded in 2017. Mr. Swift set up a similar fund for graduates of Lenoir High School (NC), also administered by the Foundation.

The recipients of the Ann Swift Memorial Scholarship must have at least a 2.5 GPA, enroll in an accredited LVN/LPN or RN Degree program, and show good character, honesty, and motivation.

Ann was born June 15, 1931 in Honolulu, Hawaii and died September 17, 2014 in Cuba, NY. She was the daughter of Captain Robert Clifton Sarratt, U.S.C.G. and Ann Elizabeth Ruff Sarratt. Ann graduated in 1953 from Duke University School of Nursing and became a registered nurse.

Ann worked for the State of North Carolina at Caswell Developmental Center in Kinston, NC for several years nursing mentally handicapped patients. She loved raising orchids and was a member of the Orchid Society of Kinston.
In retirement she enjoyed traveling to Europe and to the South Pacific area as well as within the United States. She was active in the First Baptist Church of Cuba and supported of many conservation organizations including the Nature Conservancy, the Bat Conservation Society, Save the Manatee Society, and the Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter.
