ACAF and United Way Establish Emergency Fund for Crisis Response
(August 2024) In response to the recent flooding in Allegany County, United Way of Cattaraugus & Allegany Counties (UWCAC) and the Allegany County Area Foundation (ACAF) are creating a permanent emergency fund designed to provide swift financial assistance during times of crisis.
This collaboration will enable both organizations to quickly respond to emergency needs as they arise, ensuring that critical funds reach those most affected by disasters in a timely manner.
“This fund is more than just a response to the recent flooding; it’s a commitment to the long-term resilience of our community,” Susan McAuley, UWCAC Executive Director, said. “By establishing this fund on a permanent basis, we can ensure that resources are available when our community needs them most, and any leftover funds can continue to grow and be used in future emergencies.”
ACAF has generously pledged an initial $5,000 to open the fund. UWCAC’s board of directors has approved a matching grant of $5,000.
“This emergency fund is a natural extension of the positive and effective partnership we shared with United Way during Covid,” added Bruce Campbell of ACAF. “It strengthens this relationship and allows our organizations to respond most efficiently to emerging, urgent needs.
The establishment of this emergency fund underscores the commitment of both UWCAC and ACAF to support the Allegany County community, especially in times of need. Contributions to the fund are welcome and can be made through the Allegany County Area Foundation at 6087 State Rte. 19N, Belmont, NY 14813, or online at www.alleganycountyareafoundation.org. Checks should be payable to ACAF with Emergency Fund shown on the memo line.
Organizations seeking grants may contact the UWCAC at 716-372-3620 or via e-mail director@UWCAC.org or ACAF at 585-296-5616 or via e-mail director@acafny.org
The new emergency fund will be jointly managed by UWCAC and ACAF, with a task force from both organizations overseeing the allocation of resources.
