Check PresentationThe Allegany County Area Foundation recently awarded a $750 grant to Walking on Water, Inc. The grant money will be used to improve communications at their Veterans Housing and Training Center located at 9622 State Route 243 in Rushford, NY.  They plan to purchase equipment with the grant money to upgrade their internet access.

Their Veterans Housing and Training Center is designed to serve homeless or near-homeless veterans in the Western New York Area who need assistance to successfully reestablish themselves in their communities.  They are dedicated to addressing the urgent needs of those veterans who are struggling with reintegration back into civilian life and to making the comprehensive program being developed at their facility in Rushford into an effective model that can be adopted by other communities.

Their facility will house 10-15 veterans for a transitional period, during which each veteran will be linked with educational, life skills, job training, and job placement and other services as needed.  They will partner with local and regional veterans, employment and training and human services organizations and will provide for satellite learning programs on site. They will also provide unique opportunities, such as Small Farming and Alternative Energy Initiatives, for practical skill development and potential for a career path.  Their facility in Rushford is ideally suited to providing training for “green” careers and farming occupations, with its 140 acres of pristine acreage.  You can view more pictures of the Veterans Housing and Training Center on the ACAF FaceBook page.
