The Lifeway Youth Center in Belfast Receives Help from the Allegany County Area Foundation

Belfast, NY – The Allegany County Area Foundation is pleased to announce a $1,000 grant awarded to the Lifeway Youth Center of Belfast. Timothy Sortore, President of the Lifeway Youth Center (LYC), said that,  “The funds will be used to purchase a range for their kitchen.  This is much needed and will be used countless times to provide meals and snacks for the youth.  If we have any money left over, we will use it to purchase some remaining sports equipment for the youth.”

Lifeway sprang from the desire of several community members to serve their young people in a tangible way.  Currently, they serve an average of 20 young people on a weekly basis.  Their weekly events including games, pizza and lessons are being held in a local church facility until their center is completed.  The Lifeway Youth Center building located at 21 Main Street in Belfast was purchased in May of 2015.  Once the building renovations are completed and their programs are in full swing, they anticipate serving 40-50 young people from Belfast and the surrounding area.  The Lifeway Youth Center will provide them with a safe environment where they can find fellowship, safe recreation, caring adults and guidance toward a better future.
