The ACAF Helps the New YMCA in Allegany County

WELLSVILLE, N.Y., — 12/19/2013  The Allegany County Area Foundation has awarded a grant of $1,200.00 to the Wellsville Y.M.C.A. to help support technology needs for their new facility in the Riverwalk Plaza in Wellsville. The new facility serves youth, adults and families, including a dedicated partnership with the Office of the Aging to provide space for older adults to participate in activities with each other and get lunch from Meals on Wheels.

Traci Johnson, Executive Director of the Wellsville YMCA, said, “The grant money will help the YMCA purchase a flat screen television and computers for the senior activity room, the child care center, and one for their office.” The television screen will be used for interactive programs that involve tennis and other sports simulations which will help keep them active. The computers will benefit the seniors by giving them access to the internet so they can communicate with others, look employment, and stay connected with current events around the world. The computers in the office will be used for record keeping and scheduling. The children in the child care center will be able to make use of a compuer as a learning tool under the supervision of YMCA staff and volunteers.

The new YMCA facility in Wellsville includes: a wellness center (cardio & strength equipment), a group exercise/dance studio, a child watch area, a community room, and locker rooms.
