Returning to her library roots in 2008, she became the director of the Alfred Box of Books Library and served the community in that capacity until her “second” retirement in June, 2010. During her tenure at the Box of Books, she secured a $244,000 Broadband Technology Opportunities Program grant for the creation of a Public Computing Center at the library which provides free access and training on a wide variety of technologies.

As a long-time resident of the county, Meissner believes in the importance of community involvement and thus, in addition to active participation in professional organizations, including the presidency of the South Central Research Library Council’s Board of Trustees, she has served youth, church, and community groups in various leadership roles throughout her years in Alfred.

Meissner is an avid gardener, reader, and cook who enjoys canoeing, cross-country skiing, leading the Union University Church bell choir, and travel with friends.
