Allegany County Area Foundation Hosts Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the ACAF was held on November 19, 2012 t the Crossroads Center in Belmont.
The annual report was presented at that time to area grant seekers who received over $11,000.00 in funds from the Foundation.

The meeting was called to order by Carolyn Miller, Board president. Dick Halberg, Finance Chairperson provided an overview of the investment policy and financials of the charitable organization. Mr. Halberg stressed that the Foundation is self-sustaining. One of the goals of the Board is to increase the assets in the Allegany Fund. Growth in this area will allow the Board to allocate more grants to community agencies and organizations. Warren Emerson closed the meeting by sharing the wish that really good things happen in Allegany County.

Approximately forty-five persons attended the meeting. Guests included grant recipients who shared their organizations use of Foundation funds. Speakers at the event included Pamela Witter, Leadership Allegany, Brian Hildreth, Director of the David A. Howe Library in Wellsville, NY and Mrs. Beth Powers, noted for her philanthropy.

Honored in this year’s annual report was Mr. Michael Kunz. He is notably a “builder of bridges”. Mr. Kunz funded a scholarship in memory of his wife, Karen. The scholarship is for  students from Allegany County, Hinsdale or Portville schools who are pursuing a degree in business. Karen was a dedicated business manager in area schools. We are honored to have a scholarship in her name.

Also, the Bob Christian Fund was created in the past year to recognized exemplary service for many years as the Foundation’s first executive director.
