The Kane Family Scholarship Fund

James M. KaneThe Kane Family Scholarship Fund
James M. Kane, a longtime teacher at the Belmont Central/Genesee Valley Central School District, has recently created the Kane Family Scholarship Fund which will benefit the graduates of the Genesee Valley Central High School. This fund becomes one of 27 scholarship funds managed by the Allegany County Area Foundation Dollars for Scholars Program.
When asked about the purpose of this new scholarship Mr. Kane stated, “My parents knew, demonstrated, and stressed the value of a good college education. When they were young, not everyone had the opportunity to attend college.  They worked long and hard to achieve their goals of earning a college degree.  Then they each enjoyed long and fulfilling careers as a teacher and a banker.  When I was to finish high school, my parents encouraged me to find a college that would offer me the best opportunity to achieve my dream.  They were always there to encourage, motivate and support me in all my endeavors.  Therefore, I am establishing the Kane Family Scholarship in honor of my parents.  I hope this scholarship will make it a little easier for a highly-motivated, hard-working graduate to achieve the college degree and job of their dreams.”
For this scholarship fund preference will be given to students who are pursuing a career in finance or education. The recipients must have a high school GPA of at least 2.7 (80%) or a college GPA of 2.5. Also, the recipients must be highly motivated and willing to work hard to reach their goals. The first $2,000 award from this fund will be announced on June 5th of this year. Applicants may apply online at:  www.alleganycountyareafoundation.dollarsforscholars.org by April 1st.
